“I’m trying to make the broccoli taste good,” Actor Matthew Mcconnaughey said during a recent interview on CBS Mornings.

Mcconnaughey who is famously known for his “Alright, alright, alright” phrase delivered in great Southern twang, was speaking on CBS Mornings about his conversations with his children about life’s ups and downs and broccoli was his metaphor for tough discussions. He also debuted his new children’s book, “Just Because” that provides simple, compelling advice to adults as well.

In this short piece, I am adopting Mcconnaughey’s food analogy and his “alright” belief that life works out for everyone who puts in the work and has faith the perfect solution to every problem is already here.

There’s a lot to unpack and resolve for many who are undergirded by fear, anger, loss, feeling stuck, and more characteristics and any other traits that are linked to depression. This is especially true for young adults in college where it’s estimated nearly half report symptoms of depression, as revealed in a study released in August 2023. Also, older persons are especially prone to depressive thoughts that often lead to diseases, according to another new research report.
