It’s the roar of a lion that Curtis Steele uses to kick off his 200+ podcasts, “Die Hard Den” about the Detroit Lions football team. Steele, who bills himself as an aspiring sportscaster on his LinkedIn profile, is a student at Full Sail University’s Dan Patrick School of Sportscasting.

Even with the prestige of being in the inaugural class of the Emmy award-winning sportscaster’s namesake school of sportscasting, and with a 2020 graduation date, Steele says the job market demands even more.

“Many companies are looking for certifications that prove that you know how to do a job instead of a degree,” said the U.S. Army veteran who also earned a bronze star and associate’s degree from the American Military Academy.

There are an estimated 650,000 organizations offering micro-credentialing to students like Steele. With seven additional earned micro-credentials from LinkedIn/Lynda.com’s “Producing Professional Podcasts” and “SEO Foundations ” and Adobe, Steele adds value to his podcasts.
